The idea of authenticity and living a culturally authentic life, although vaguely understood, are thoughts shared by people of all ethnic groups and cultures. Our films not only provide insights into the shared hopes, dreams and challenges of African-Americans, but seem to motivate audiences of various ethnicities to reflect on their own ancestral connections and cultural pride and to embark on their own personal quest of reconnecting with their cultural ancestry.

The African-American connection to the continent of Africa is undeniably spiritual, cultural, and physical. "An African-American Quest for Authenticity is an insightful and inspiring documentary that reveals why many African-Americans chose to make the journey to Ghana, West Africa to live an authentic life. Twenty-one African-Americans compare their experiences living in America with their experience living in Ghana. They have discovered a sense of peace, joy and spiritual renewal that only returning to the Africa provides. The 'repatriates' dispel many myths about Africa, misconceptions about returning, and presents another side of African not typically portrayed by mass media. This film captures the true spirit, challenges and joys these repatriates experience as they live their authentic lives reconnecting to the Motherland -- Africa.
Ndanu from Indianapolis, IN says this about the film.

Loida from the Phillipines had this to say ...
I read and I watched this film of Cindy. I really like it because not only African American can relate to the story also other people who live in the foreign land. They should not forget their origin even though you are not born in your original land. We should not forget who we are where we came from and what culture we have.
Emmanuel - Student from Ball State University in Muncie, IN has this to say about the presentation ...
